I love these detailed Dia de los Muertos paper designs. I know exactly where that wall is… somewhere off of 24th Street (I want to say near Harrision). I took a similar photo in 2008!

Strangely, Christmas time is usually my favorite time of year… all the lights and the green trees and the “giving spirit”. Not quite sure what has come over me this year… I think it had a lot to do with reading that cranky Jew rant (#3 above).

Honestly, I prefer off-holiday events specifically for that reason. When people go out for holiday celebration, they expect things to be *epic* and almost never does it live up to that. Plus lightweights go binge drinking and get reckless. Never a good combination.

Also, unfortunately for big-named acts, I almost always prefer the local DJs (especially in electronic music) in the smaller venues. The local guys just have such a better grip on what the crowds like and the ticket prices stay at reasonable levels because they don’t have to pay Paul Van Dyke to fly first class from godknowswhere.

Maybe I’m just too jaded… heh

well since i just got over the flu (regular, not swine) and it sucked, i’m also opting for small gatherings… i hate crowds, especially during flu season and ESPECIALLY dressed up “amateur hour” crowds… as you so eloquently put it…

i’m sure there’s going to be some great music out in the clubs this weekend… but isn’t there great music every weekend?

Microsoft is trying to be the cool kid by trying to dress like the cool kid, act like the cool kid, and sit next to the cool kid thinking that’s all it takes to attain coolness. But much like money doesn’t buy class, neither does copying something cool bring you coolness – just brings you laughable shame.
